I should have read this book years ago. I'm not entirely sure why I didn't. I love Ann Patchett's work--Bel Canto is on my top 10 list of favorite books. I guess I wasn't interested in reading about a magician or his assistant. It seemed like a silly topic. Oh boy, was I wrong; it is about so much more than that. It's about love, family, grief, magic, and place. I loved the characters in this book, and the story line is thoughtful and thought-provoking.
